SHILOH CHURCH AND CEMETERY

Shiloh Church and Cemetery

Originally constructed by the "citizens of Montezuma" in 1869 as the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, it was once the only house of worship between Fairfield-Suisun and Rio Vista. In 1874 the first burial was recorded. The church burned in 1875 and this church was built in 1876 at a cost of less than $3000. Since the cemetery was growing faster than the congregation, services ceased and by the 1920's the church was deserted and fell into disrepair. Restoration began in 1998 with the community raising money and donating labor for the repairs. While only used occasionally, the church stands as a monument to the spirit of the community and to the pioneers of this area.
